[Fortification] "Maniere om te vinden de linien van een fortificatie". [Low Countries, c. 1600?] Obl. 8vo (c. 11,5 x cm): ff., Dutch, vellum. Contemp. limp vellum with ties, flat spine. In good condition. Rare and interesting early Dutch textbook of fortification ("bolewercken" and "redoutte"), with numerous calculations of examples and with detailed instructions (e.g. "Stelt u instrument int centrum vande figure …"). The use of Dutch and the detailed calculations could point to the circle of Simon Stevin (1548-1620), mathematician and engineer, acting as military advisor of Maurice of Nassau (1567-1625).
