Beschreibung:

Lot of 4 daguerreotypes of men in formal clothing. Includes a ninth plate portrait of two sitters, each sporting a beard, top hat, and cravat. Housed in full pressed paper case with hinge separation. Remaining images are sixth plates housed in half pressed paper cases, except for one under mat and glass only. This portrait captures a self-assured, urbane young man casually seated with his legs crossed at the knee and left arm slung over the back of a chair. He wears a top hat, collared coat, double-breasted vest, and cravat, possibly with a pinkie ring on his right hand. Another image shows a man with a gold ring seated at a table. He holds what appears to be a cigar in his left hand and props his elbow on a book or album clearly printed "A. BOISSEAU," likely in reference to French-born artist and photographer Alfred Boisseau (1823-1901), active in the US, primarily in Ohio, during the 1850s. Final portrait features a bearded man wearing a coat with wide lapels and knotted cravat, along with a pocket watch chain. He holds an small-scale instrument of some kind in his right hand. Provenance:Charles A. and Frances Swedlund Collection of Early Photography Condition: Resealed by consignor within the last twenty years.
