Lot of 4 ninth plate cases bearing figural designs, including Going to Market, catalogued in Berg as "Very Very Rare" [1-204]. Also with three "Very Rare" examples, among which are The Blind Beggar [1-161], Boy Playing with Rabbit 1 [1-159], and Charter Oak [1-135]. Cases contain five ninth plate portraits: an ambrotype of a contemplative woman [1-135], an ambrotype of a young lady wear drop-style earrings and dark ribbons in her hair [1-1661], an ambrotype of a pair of young brothers [1-161], and an daguerreotype of an elegant woman in a floral dress [1-159]. Also with an daguerreotype of a bearded clergyman, credited on brass mat to Holmes, New York, NY [1-204]. Provenance:Marvin Lieber Collection of Early Photographica Condition: Light wear to all.
