Lot of 14 sixth plate portraits, including 9 daguerreotypes, 4 ambrotypes, and 1 tintype. Images primarily housed in full pressed paper or thermoplastic cases, with one image housed in a single-sided wall hanging case. Among notable subjects are a young man wrapped in a blanket, a somewhat stout youth with a shotgun leaning against his shoulder, a freckle-faced man wearing a dotted tie, and a gentleman with a large upper lip and a penetrating gaze, identified as Halsey P. Grant (1824-?). Inscribed card notes that the daguerreotype was "taken by himself while in Union Village. . . on the 25 of August 1846." Collection also includes images of a gentleman in an overcoat and drooping tie credited on mat to Cutting & Turner, a young man with delicate features taken by S. Hamiton, Meadville, PA, and a man with under eye wrinkles housed in a figural leather case bearing an angel. Provenance:Marvin Lieber Collection of Early Photographica Condition: One case fully separated at spine. Images with spotting, streaking, flaking, and tarnishing.
