FRANCIS DODD (1874-1949) CHARLES CUNDALL (Schwabe 171) Etching with drypoint, 1926, signed in pencil 45.5 x 30cm. * This is considered to be Dodd's masterpiece amongst his etched portraits and the subject was a full page illustration in Print Collector's Quarterly in 1926. Dodd had suggested including an image on the canvas at which Cundall is working but, by leaving it blank, he has let the focus fall upon the artist himself. The well-dressed but informal pose of the artist contrasts well with the neatly ordered, rectilinear background details of the pictures in the studio.
