FRANÇOIS ÉMILE POPINEAU (1887-1951), AN ART DECO BRONZED TERRACOTTA FIGURE OF A BATHING FEMALE NUDE FRENCH, CIRCA 1925 Signed E. Popineau to cast 49.5cm high François Émile Popineau (1887-1951) was a member of the artist group 'La Stele' that was founded in the 1920s by the Éditeur d'Art, Arthur Goldscheider. Popineau received a number of commissions for national war memorials, before developing a specialty in the study of female sculpture and fountain decoration - most notably in Bourges and Bagnères-de-Bigorre. He was awarded a gold medal at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs in 1935 and the Prix Puvis de Chavannes for 'La Baigneuse' in 1937. Please note, the marble plinth is not included with this lot
