A wonderful example of the international fraternity of scientists, as Franklin's translated text stimulated d'Alibard to try the American's notion of using a rod to draw an electrical charge from the sky and collect it in a Leyden jar. Franklin was the first to think of the idea of a lightning rod, but d'Alibard—by Franklin's own admission—was the first to successfully experiment with one on 10 May 1752. PROVENANCEM.
