Jones (Adventures in Americana 172); Frank T. Siebert (Sotheby’s New York, 21 May 1999, lot 532). the edgar-jones-siebert copy of one of the rarest indian treaties printed by franklin. This conference was held following the Easton conference of 1757 with Chief Teedyuscung. The chiefs of the Six Nations had objected to the Delaware chief being given such importance, asking at this meeting “Who made Teedyuscung a great man and wherefore is he called a King?” Here Teedyuscung treated with the Six Nations carefully, referring with respect to those chiefs as his “uncles.” The Delaware chief, however, was rebuked for not releasing captives as promised at the prior treaty. The Treaty was first published by Franklin in November 1758. The importance of this treaty is illustrated by Franklin issuing this second edition in February 1759. “This second printing is a line-for-line, page-for-page resetting of the 1758 first edition” (Miller). Fewer copies of this second issue are extant. Boyd XI, second edition; Campbell 636; De Puy 44 (note); Evans 8377; Howes E24 “d”; Miller 718; Siebert Sale 532 (this copy).
