Lot comprises: Armstrong, Alexander. A Personal Narrative of the Discovery of the North-West Passage with Numerous Incidents of Travel and Adventure During Nearly five Years' Continuous Service in the Arctic Regions while in Search of the Expedition under Sir John Franklin London: Hurst and Blackett, 1857. Tinted lithographed frontispiece, folding engraved chart, partially handcolored. Publisher's pebbled blue cloth; rebacked. First edition. Signed by Armstrong on the verso of the title-page, with a further notation by the recipient, Charles Woolley; accompanied by a cabinet card albumen photograph of Armstrong, signed on the verso, 1899, and by three autograph letters signed by Armstrong to Woolley, 1898–1899. Engraved frontispiece portait of the author in first. vol., terminal ad page and 2 terminal leaves of publisher's ads in vol. 1, 24-page publisher's catalogue dated March 1855 at back of vol. 2; browned. Publisher's blind-embossed brown cloth, spines gilt-lettered, front covers gilt with vignette of the obelisk was erected in Bellot's honor outside Greenwich Hospital. Blue cloth slipcase, felt-lined.
