French Art Nouveau Carved Oak Extension Dining Table and Set of Four Side Chairs Designed by Eugene Gaillard, circa 1900 The table with a shaped rectangular top with a bowed center, above a recessed apron with a molded edge, raised on a pedestal base and curved foliate supports continuing to an X-shaped base, with two later leaves; each chair with a curved crest above a foliate decorated pierced back continuing to a padded seat, raised on incurved legs joined by deeply raked side stretchers and ending in square feet. Height of table 29 5/8 inches, width 41 inches, length extended 8 feet 4 1/4 inches, each leaf 26 inches. Provenance: Macklowe Gallery, New York, November 20, 1982 C The Collection of Gerald G. Table: appears to be in generally good condition; typical surface abrasions, scuff marks and light superficial abrasions appropriate to age and usage; one of the rounded corners has a small area of loss on the underside of its rim edge, visually out of sight and not really of any consequence Chairs: one chair has had restoration to both of its front legs in the area of the feet; another chair has had a repair to the bottom front corner area of one of the stiles (small wedge-shaped piece has been reattached); otherwise, each appears to be in good condition; typical scuff marks, abrasions, etc., consistent with age and usage
