He began studying traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy as a child, and he later studied at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. He was heavily influenced by the literati painting style of the Song Dynasty, which emphasized the use of calligraphy and brushwork in painting. In the 1960s, Fu began experimenting with new materials and techniques, and he developed his signature style of ink painting. He combined traditional ink painting techniques with contemporary Western painting styles, incorporating elements of abstraction and expressionism into his works. His works are characterized by their bold brushwork, vibrant colors, and abstract forms. He draws inspiration from nature, and his works often feature landscapes, flowers, and birds. Throughout his career, Fu has received numerous awards and honors, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Chinese National Academy of Arts in 2008.
