.44 caliber, 39.5" pinned octagonal barrel, no S/N. Browned finish, brass furniture, full-length hard wood stock. Barrel signed JH in script, but is otherwise unmarked. Flat, stepped flint lock is an old, ill-fitting replacement. Rifle with a simple four-piece daisy head patch box with release in toe, flat, 2-screw side plate and a triggerguard with finger extension. Buttplate with separate toe plate that is damaged and missing brass at both ends. Two brass pipes with entry pipe damaged and upper pipe missing, 2" brass nose cap. Fixed notch rear sight and dovetailed front sight. Stock with a subtle Roman nose profile, raised cheek rest and measuring 1.6" wide at the butt. Some simple incised line carving is present in the forend. Includes a wood ramrod. Condition: Good. Metal with a mottled and moderately oxidized patina showing areas of brown and gray with some surface roughness, scattered pitting and more moderate pitting at the breech. Rifle is likely reconverted to flint from a percussion drum conversion, based upon the significant erosion at the breech. Mechanically functional, good bore with strong rifling is very dirty and evenly pitted. Brass furniture is mostly untouched, except for the bright entry pipe. Stock sanded and refinished with several repaired cracks in the forend and significant amounts of wood loss along the upper edges of the forend on both sides. Additional repairs are present around the lock mortise where some wood is added and through the triggerguard area and the reverse butt, where added finish conceals apparent repaired cracks.
