[Games] Birch, Thomas, and J.H. Seymour The Geographical Pastime, or the Complete Tour of Europe Philadelphia: E. Parker, 1822. Large folding game, comprising eight hand-colored engraved panels, including one large hand-colored cartouche, top left panel; mounted to linen; 18 1/4 x 22 1/2 in. (463 x 571 mm). Engraved by Seymour after a drawing by Birch. Scattered separations along folds; contemporary ownership signature on marbled panel verso. OCLC 642976772. "One of the earliest board games published in the United States," John R. Hébert, Chief, Geography and Map Division, Library of Congress (base line, a newsletter of the Map and Geography Round Table, Volume 29, Number 6, December 2008). An exceedingly rare map game, modeled and expanded after Thomas Jefferys' 1768 "The Royal Geographical Pastime or the Complete Tour of Europe". In this game players traverse Europe, Russia, and parts of North Africa, along 138 stopping points on their Grand Tour, starting in Dover, England, and finishing in London. Only one recorded copy, in the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C.
