Garden pots/planters: A pair of rare Val d’Osne cast iron urns French, 2nd half 19th century 80cm high. The Val d’Osne foundry was established by J.P.Andre in 1835 and based at the Val d’Osne, in the Haute-Marne. The company took over rival firms such as Barbezat and Ducel becoming the largest and most prolific foundry of decorative and sculptural cast iron in France. They exhibited at the Great Exhibitions of 1851 and 1862 as well as the Chicago Great Exhibition of 1893. These urns appear in the Val d’Osne foundry catalogue as originally being a Barbezat model and are illustrated on plate 477 no 38. (See engraving)
