Beschreibung:

George Jan Hendrik (‘Geo’) POGGENBEEK (Dutch, born Amsterdam 1853 – died Amsterdam 1903) “Dutch Polder Landscape with Haystacks and a small Ditch“ Signed with monogram lower left: ‘G.P.’ Oil on canvas, 39 x 35 cm (unframed) Artist information: Geo Poggenbeek was a passionate draftsman. On the age of 19, he exchanged his office job for a life as a painter. Poggenbeek regularly went out to paint in Oosterbeek and Rolde. After finishing the Academy, Poggenbeek went to Amsterdam in 1878. In between, he made a number of study trips to Switzerland, France and Italy. In the early 1890s, Poggenbeek spent longer periods in Normandy and Brittany. Poggenbeek turned out to be a real landscape painter who’s paintings are fresh and delicate in atmosphere. For this reason, his work is often compared to that of Anton Mauve Lit.: Dutch Art Lexicon P. Scheen, 1969, vol.2, page 181 – 182.
