Beschreibung:

George T. of Dunmore, Ireland & Berkeley Square, London, fl. 1806-30) Tour to the Lakes, autograph manuscript, 42pp. excluding blanks, 17 drawings by Lambert (some full-lage), tissue guards, later ink presentation inscription from Lambert to his cousin Katherine Anthony and letter tipped-in from her presenting the vol. back to Lambert's son, slightly browned, original red straight-grained morocco, gilt, edges and spine slightly rubbed, g.e., 8vo, 1805. *** Rydal. "From Lowood, we proceeded through Ambleside, a small village towards the head of the lake, to Rhydal the seat of Sir Michael le Fleming, a fine old place situated among extensive and venerable woods when nature seems to reign perfectly uncontrolled From an eminence at the back of the house, the lake appears stretching its waters between two ranges of verdant hills, which are succeeded in the distance by the blue tints of the mountains fading by degrees into the pale atmosphere. Some way up the hill is a waterfall of considerable beauty, but not sufficiently grand to excite emotions of astonishment or terror. Lower down, near the house, another cascade is seen through the window of a little gloomy building... give rise to sensations very opposite to sublimity." - Lambert. Rydal Mount in Grasmere was the home of William Wordsworth from 1813 to 1850.
