Beschreibung:

Brown leather wallet, 2.5 x 4.25 in. with two pockets with flaps and five open pockets (what would evolve into modern card holders). Two small newspaper clippings are with the wallet, presumably were in it, along with a sheet with Frederick Grannis' Civil War service (written out later, since the sheet is pre-printed with "188 "). All papers folded so they would fit in the open pockets of the wallet. One is a tribute to a Mrs. Charles Symonds. the other has recipes for mortar (as in bricklaying and repair), the other side has the formula to calculate interest. Frederick W. Grannis enlisted in the 61st New York State Volunteers. there is some conflict in the list from the wallet and the dates from the New York Adjutant General's Report. But Grannis lists his Battles as: Yorktown, Fair Oaks, Peach Orchard, White Oak Swamp, Savage Station, Glendale, Malvern Hill, Antietam, Bristow Station, Gettysburgh, Chancellorville, Mine River, Fredericksburg, Wilderness, Corbins Bridge, Po River, North Anna, Spottsylvania, Totopotomy, Cold Harbor (written as Coal), Petersburg, Strawberry Plain, Deep Bottom, Rems [sic - Reams] Station. Condition: Papers toned and separating at folds. A couple of open pockets split on one side.
