Goble (Thomas, c. 1780-1869). Lieutenant and naval signaller who fought at the Battle of Trafalgar and was appointed secretary to Lord Nelson. A rare Document Signed, 'Thos. Goble', 15 July 1820, a pre-printed attestation completed in manuscript by the Mayor and cosigner George Bridges, indicating that Goble had not worked on land or sea between 1 April and 30 June 1820, minor soiling and light creasing, small smudges to Bridges's signature and two small nicks to blank areas of lower left corner, 110 x 195 mm (Quantity: 1) Thomas Goble was initially responsible for recording signals during the Battle of Trafalgar. However, when Nelson's secretary John Scott was killed, Goble was promoted to the position of secretary to Nelson, a position he held for only 1 hour before Nelson himself died of his gunshot wound. George Bridges (c. 1762-1840), member of the Wheelwrights' Company, Lord Mayor of London 1819-20 and MP for the City of London, 1820-26.
