Title: Golfiana Miscellanea; Being a Collection of Interesting Monographs on the Royal and Ancient Game of Golf Author: Stewart, James Lindsay, editor Place: London Publisher: Hamilton, Adams & Co. Date: 1887 Description: xi, [1], [9]-300 + 8 ad pp. (8vo) original red cloth, gilt-lettered spine. First Edition. Association copy with the pencil autograph of James H. Aitken on front pastedown. Aitken was a famous golf collector, the first person to have made a really comprehensive collection of golf literature; indeed, the earliest bibliography could only have been compiled by reference to his library. D&M 4380; D&J S36640. Some pencil notes to rear endpapers. Stewart's purpose in publishing this book was to bring golf literature to the attention of the public, since although Clark's magnificent book had appeared years before, it had been in a limited edition and generally unavailable to the public. Among other literature, this contains an interesting reprint of Farnie's The Golfer's Manual - Murdoch 743; Lot Amendments Condition: Rubbing to somewhat darkened and leaning spine; a bit of darkening to cloth; toning within, more pronounced on endpapers; very good. Item number: 294028
