Markov, decorative headpieces and initials. (Some slight finger-soiling, some leaves with wax drips.) Contemporary parcel-gilt brass binding over wooden boards, chased and engraved with strapwork border on stippled ground, the upper cover applied with an oval centrepiece of the Resurrection and circular cornerpieces of the four Evangelists, the lower cover engraved with the Nativity, applied with knob cornerpieces, the spine engraved with strapwork and roundels (some rubbing, lacks clasps), edges gauffered and gilt. A fine example of mid-19th-century printing and binding of a large format Gospels intended for use on a church altar.
