(Some scuffing, light in the main but with a resultant tear to the leather of the lower corner of upper cover). FIRST EDITIONS OF GOULD'S FIRST AND SECOND MONOGRAPHS. This copy does not include the supplementary plates to tthe Toucans . The plates in the first edition, including those by Edward Lear were re-drawn for the second edition (1854). In addition new plates of new species were produced. These new plates were then re-issued the following year (1855) as a Supplement to the first edition , the theory being that this would allow the original subscribers to complete their copies of the work.
