With extracts from Books and Illustrations', a neat copy, 285 pages, 4to , list of illustrations and sources, loosely inserted index and appendix, 22 pages, 4to , 174 illustrations (92 views; 8 portraits; 38 depictions of artefacts; 18 coloured plates depicting costumes and manners). Contemporary green morocco gilt, spine in 6 compartments with raised bands, lettered in the second, gilt edges. A characteristic emanation of the mid-Victorian Grand Tour, this account shows close attention to art and architecture, and with lavish quotation from poets, historians and guide books.
