Shaft with shallow carved inscription "LONG LIVE THE PRESIDENT" and on reverse "1876". Inscription is filled with gilt paint and appears to date to the U.S. Centennial, while the cane and inset medallion appear earlier, possibly dating to the time of the death of Washington in 1799. Iron ferrule, total length 37.25". Condition:EXC. with fine old polished patina.
