GROLIER CLUB -- Facsimile of the Laws and Acts of the General Assembly for their Majesties Province of New York. At New York printed and sold by William Bradford printer to their Majesties King William & Queen Mary, 1694. Edited and annotated by Robert Ludlow Fowler. New York: Theodore Low De Vinne for the Grolier Club, January 1894. Small 2 o (290 x 185 mm). PRINTED ON VELLUM, one of three copies. Engraved vignettes by Max Rosenthal to Fowler's historical introduction. Modern black morocco by Denis Gower, edges uncut. Provenance : Theodore De Vinne (1828-1914, printer, one of the founders of the Grolier Club), bookplate preserved during rebinding. THE FIRST VELLUM COPY RETAINED BY THE PRINTER FOR HIS PRIVATE COLLECTION. The other two vellum copies could not be subscribed to either, as they were auctioned off after the Club's tenth annual business meeting on 21st February 1894 (notice and paper prospectus loosely inserted). FINE ASSOCIATION COPY. Printing on vellum requires considerable technical accomplishment, and in gathering the sheets for his own copy De Vinne will have chosen the best impressions.
