FIRST EDITION, first issue of the first Virginian flora per se. PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed by Gronovius on title: "ex dono authoris J. Fred. Gronovius." Based on collections made by John Clayton at the beginning of the 18th century. Although prior to Species plantarum 1753, Stearn regards this as the most important edition of the work "because Linnaeus helped in its production, and because many species in the Species plantarum are based upon it."
