Group of Hopi and Navajo baskets and one Hopi plaque Print First half 20th century, the first: a Navajo ceremonial coiled polychrome plaque of aniline-dyed and natural sumac and yucca, of circular form with gently outswept sides, decorated to center with serrated circular design broken by Shipapu gap (3.75'' H x 14.25'' Dia.); the second: a Hopi wicker deep form polychrome basket of sumac and rabbit brush with a yucca-wrapped rim, decorated with two rows of birds, each depicted with wings outstretched (9'' H x 11.5'' Dia.); the third: inscribed in ink verso ''Xmas 1929 / Mrs. M??? / Hopi Village'', a Hopi-style woven woolen yarn plaque emulating a wicker plaque design, of circular form with upturned rim, decorated with a central Kachina (1.25'' H x 13'' Dia.), 3 pieces, Provenance: Private Collection, Santa Clarita, CA. Condition: Overall good condition. The first with applied marker to underside of base ''Hopi'' and one lost stitch. The second with fading throughout, minor abrasions to underside and scattered losses to yucca rim; the largest section 1.25''-long. The third with soiling and fading to verso inscription commensurate with age and scattered losses to stitches; the largest a .25'' x .25'' area in the Kachina's skirt.
