Lot of 7 airmail envelopes. First has cachet for National Air Races, Chicago, 1930. Second celebrates "Twentieth Anniversary of First St. Louis Air Mail Flight, Oct. 4, 1911 - Oct. 4, 1931." Loose newspaper clipping with date of Oct. 1st, 1931 with headline "Doolittle to Re-Enact First Mail Flight in St. Louis" describes the upcoming event. Last sentence: "A special cachet celebrating the event has been prepared and all mail designated for the flight will be stamped with the cachet." - which this envelope has been. Back of envelope with newspaper photo affixed of the mail bag being dropped at Fairground Park by Jimmy Doolittle. Two envelopes from 1932 with different USS Akron cachets, one from May 6 celebrating a coast-to-coast mail trip by the Akron, the other with "Tactical Training Flight" (during which the zeppelin also carried mail) dated Aug. 1. Manuscript ink note upper left "Air Mail USS Akron." Washington Airmail Society designed a cachet to welcome Wiley Post. Postmarked Washington, DC July 26, 1933. "U.S. Navy Celebrates National Air Mail Week - 1938" with Great Seal of the U.S., and tipped in 1 x 1.5 in. photo of Navy seaplane. Postmarked May 16, 1938, USS Colorado. Verso with large stamp "Plane Service Speeds Navy Mail." "Trans Pacific Route" map with silver gilt on title, landmasses and islands, with 1 x 1.5 in. photo of seaplane tipped in. Postmarked May 2, 1941, U.S.S. Case. Condition: Very good condition. Gilt starting to wear from last, but still majority present. Expected wear from mail handling, mostly minor.
