Title etched with letterpress imprint, letterpress title to part two with printer's device, 67 etched plates, of which 8 are double-page on guards, and 58 full-page, woodcut ornamental initials, type-ornament head- and tailpieces, pasted-on correction slips on part II: pp. 13, 15, 17, 97, 134-5, and 140. (Spotted, some light browning, last double-page plate repaired at folded, small holes in title and final plate.) Modern tan morocco gilt panelled. Provenance : stamp erased from title; Piero Ginori Conti (bookplate). FIRST EDITION, of one of the rarest and -- in Vinet's opinion -- most interesting festival books. Gualterotti provides not only a description of the wedding celebration but also a visual record of the paintings and decorative sculpture made for the occasion. The artists involved, identified by Gualterotti, included Alessandro Allori Jan van der Straet Francesco Terzio Giacomo Ligozzi, G-B. Lorenzi, Pierre Francheville, Taddeo Landini and Giovanni-Antonio Posio, the architect of the festivities. Only 10 years earlier, Gualterotti had published an elaborate description of the festivities for Francesco de Medici's second marriage, to Bianca Cappello. With leaves Cc3-4 containing 'L'ornamento fatto dentro nel dvomo', lacking in some copies.
