A letter of recommendation presenting S. Conte Ruberto Boschetto. Regarded as one of the foremost political writers of the Renaissance, Guicciardini's method of verifying government documents in the preparation of his great historical work, Storia d'Italia , earned him the accolade 'father of modern history'. A friend and critic of Niccolò Machiavelli the present document was issued by Guicciardini in the year that Clement VII appointed him lieutenant-general of the papal army. Boschetto is mentioned in Book 13 of the Storia .
