Two parts in one, 12 o (137 x 80 mm). Woodcut head-piece incorporating Charles I royal arms at beginning of first part, section-title for second part with woodcut device, numerous woodcut initials, typographic page borders. (Title soiled with some minor marginal wear, E5-E8 and F7-8 with corresponding horizontal tears repaired affecting a few letters slightly, some dampstaining and soiling, printing flaw on several leaves at beginning affecting 5 lines of text.) 18th-century tree calf (rebacked). Provenance : purchased from Scribner Rare Books, New York, 18 August 1972. Second edition, enlarged to include four new poems in the first part, and a second part published here for the first time. First published in 1634, Castara celebrates Habington's wife, Lucy Herbert, the daughter of William, first baron Powis. This copy with variant imprint on section title without initials of Alsop and Fawcet and dated 1636. Grolier Wither to Prior 411; STC 12584a.
