Document signed ("John HancocK," with paraph) as Governor of Massachusetts, Boston, 14 April 1789. 1 1/2 page, folio, integral blank, small papered seal to the left of Hancock's fine signature, clean (repairable) separations at central horizontal fold with no loss. HANCOCK GRANTS POWER OF ATTORNEY "Know all Men by these Presents that...Andreas Johannot of Boston...Distiller," mortgaged "to me John Hancock of Boston," a piece of land "in said Boston," which Hancock later transferred "for a valuable Consideration" to one Godfrey Malbone. Since that date, a Court judgement has "been entered up in my Name for my Title & Possession of said Premises"' therefore, Hancock appoints William Tudor of Boston his Attorney "to the sole Use & Benefit of the said Godfrey Malbone," granting "full Power & Authority for me & in my Name...."
