At the top the document is headed, "State of Massachusetts Bay. In the House of Representatives...." The resolution concerns the application of the Selectmen of the town of Falmouth (on Cape Cod). "...In consideration of the present distressed Circumstances of that Town," they petition that 'the Ballance [sic] of their Account for Supplying Soldiers Families...being [# 2,840. 10s 5 p.] be deducted out of...the Sum set on said Town in the Tax Act passed the last Session..." Beneath the text of the resolution and the note "Sent up for Concurrence," is Hancock's signature. Underneath appears the report of the Committee on Accounts of the Council, "Read & Here Concurred and Ordered," followed by Adams' signature, and then a second endorsement by Hancock, "Read & Concurred," also signed. On the second page, the resolution is duplicated in another clerical hand, and two additional endorsements are appended, one signed by Hancock (dated 11 September 1779), the other by John Avery A vertical docket of 13 September records: "Report read and accepted."
