HARRY BOLAND [1887-1922] A paid cheque for ?5-10-8d, dated 6 April 1922, payable to H. Boland, signed by Cathal Brugha, drawn on Bannc na Talmhan Teoranta, Dublin, countersigned rear H. Boland Harry Boland, from Dublin, was a leading member of the Irish Volunteers and the IRB, jailed after the Easter Rising, later Secretary of Sinn Fein, Michael Collins' unsuccessful rival for the affections of Kitty Kiernan, a member of the First Dail and its envoy in the United States, close to Eamon de Valera and an influential opponent of the Treaty, involved in negotiating the electoral 'pact' between pro- and anti-Treaty parties, died in hospital July 1922 in controversial circumstances after being shot while apparently trying to escape arrest by Free State troops.
