height 27 3/4in with typical beard formation on a dancing figure with batons. Provenance: This Los Esteros figure comes from a site of the same name formerly on the outskirts of modern day Manta Ecuador and the site was destroyed by developement in the 1980's and no longer exists. This figure was purchased by the Senior Vinueza in 1965 in Ecuador and imported to the US prior to 1970 during his stint as Ecuadorian Ambassador to Washington. NuKanal Collection, Florida, 1975 At Los Esteros many ceramic portraits of individuals from distinct tribal groups have been found. It appears that like Chavin and Taihuanaco, both of which had stone portrait carvings in an assembled area presumably representing the devotees, this site had an extensive gallery of figures representing people of the devotional fraternity. Representations of people engaged in the act of consuming coca leaf are common. Seated and standing figures are known.
