German, 20th century. Two Heinrich Handwerck Simon & Halbig bisque head dolls, each with jointed composition body, open mouth with upper teeth, blue sleepy eyes, and pierced ears. Each marked Germany / HEINRICH HANDWERCK / SIMON & HALBIG / 4 1/2 on back of head and W on top of forehead; (each) ht. 25 in. Condition: General wear consistent with age and use. On doll with red hair there is some paint loss and retouching on limbs and hands and small marks or stains to lips. On doll with dark brown hair there is a painted-over chip to left wrist.
