(Henry Buxton) Elizabeth Barrett Browning and her scarcer Books; a bio-bibliographical Note, one of 30 copies, title slightly creased, endpapers browned, original boards, slightly worn, Privately Printed, 1896; Wise (Thomas J. A Bibliography of the Writings of Joseph Conrad (1895-1921), one of 170 copies, frontispiece and illustrations, original printed boards, corners bumped, contemporary morocco-backed slip-case, Printed for Private Circulation, 1921, 8vo & sm. 4to (2). *** First mentioned Forman and Wise's "most remarkable achievement was to rewrite the literary history of Elizabeth Barrett Browning's Sonnets from the Portuguese, which was supposed to have appeared as a pamphlet privately published in Reading in 1847, rather than in the second edition of her collected poems three years later. The two conspirators gained both financially and in being able to announce new discoveries, often in their own bibliographies. In many cases these are still the standard works, being otherwise sound, so that the forgeries have had a very long life, and some may remain as yet undetected." - Oxford DNB.
