Contemporary calf gilt with the arms of Trinity College, Dublin. 7 7/8 x 4 3/4 inches (20.5 x 12.5 cm); Folding portrait, [-]^(6), B-Dd^(8). With a contemporary booklabel from Trinity awarding the book to Brett Norton, two ownership signatures and some ink marginalia, light spotting, front hinge loose; Together with Essays Concerning Human Understanding. London: 1813. Two volumes, bound in calf with varying colored lettering labels, the second volume slightly taller, possibly a married set. Rubbed; And NEDHAM, MARCHAMONT. The Excellencie of a Free State. London: A Millar et al, 1767. Contemporary calf. 8 1/4 x 5 inches (21 x 13 cm); xvii, 176 pp. Front hinge cracked, with the bookplate of the Essex Institute. The first Locke title was edited by Thomas Hollis the political philosopher. This and the Marchamont are works on good governance that were, in these editions, widely disseminated by him, including numerous books sent to Harvard. Provenance: The Dr. Frank H.
