(Mounted repairing some small holes/losses, some light browning and soiling.) Matted and framed. One of the earliest maps to show California as an island. Second state (of four) of one of the most important and decorative world maps of the mid-17th century. First published in 1630 as part of Jan Jansson's and H. Hondius's revision of the Mercator-Hondius atlas. Innovations include the depiction of the northwestern coastline of Australia and a more correct representation of north-east Canada with Baffin Island ("Queen Anne's forland") shown correctly as an island rather than a peninsula.
