HOOVER, Herbert (1874-1964). Partly printed check accomplished and signed ("Herbert Hoover"), [New York], 1 August 1921. 70 x 164mm. (2 x 6 in.). Typographical borders, printed within pale pink rectangle with borders. Neat ink cancellation stamp in central portion in red ink. A check drawn by the former President on the Guaranty Trust Company of New York, to Waldo C. Moore for $0.01. In fine condition. VERY RARE. No checks dating from Hoover's term as President are recorded at auction or in standard sources; the Sang Collection included a check dated 1939 (sold in 1978 for $3,300) and American Book Prices Current records two other post-Presidential examples, the last of which was sold in 1983 (for $5,250). Provenance : Philip D. Sang, the noted collector; a friend of the preceding.
