HORATIUS Flaccius, Quintus. Opera . London: John Pine 1733-1737. 2 volumes, 8°. Engraved throughout, frontispiece to each volume, 4 full-page plates extensively illustrated with head - and talepieces and initials. (Lacking leaf a2 in volume I, tiny marginal spot in about 3 leaves.) Contemporary full blue morocco gilt arms of Charles-Pierre Savalette de Magnanville [Olivier 2330] on both covers with triple fillet border, spine gilt in compartments red lettering-pieces in two, gilt patterned paper endleaves, edges marbled and gilt (discreet repair to one spine end, slight splitting at hinges.) Provenance: Charles-Pierre Salavette de Magnanville (1713-1788, binding.) Beautifully bound for Charles-Pierre Salavette de Magnanville who was a Member of the French Parliament in 1736 and held various important positions in the Treasury. Second issue with "potest" reading p.108, vol.II., without the printed "List of Antiques" following the dedication in vol.I. Cohen-de Ricci 497; Rothschild 1547. (2)
