Provenance : Samuel F. Barger (bookplate). FIRST EDITION OF THIS TRANSLATION. Grolier Wither to Prior 348; Wing H2786. JUVENALIS, Decimus Junius (60-140). Juvenal's Sixteen Satyrs or A survey of the manners and actions of mankind , translated and edited by Sir Robert Stapylton. London: Humphrey Moseley, 1647. 8°, engraved portrait frontispiece by W. Marshall and engraved additional title by T. Rawlins, errata leaf at end (lightly washed), green morocco gilt by Riviere, g.e. FIRST EDITION. A translation of the tenth satire had appeared in 1617. This was otherwise the first English translation of the satires. Wing J1291. (2)
