Nimrod's Songs of the Chace; the Best Collection of Hunting Songs ... with an Animated Description of a Fox-Chace, and a Superb Print of a Stag-Hunt near Windsor . London: William Holland 1788. 8° (204 x 119mm). [2], iv, [1], 4-103, [3]p. Large folding etched frontispiece printed in sepia, with a final advertisement leaf. (Frontispiece laid down, E1r with printing fault, some spotting.) 19th-century red half roan, top edge gilt (joints rubbed). Provenance : Ormond Blyth (book-label) -- C.F.G.R. Schwerdt (bookplate; his sale, 11 March 1946, lot 1824). ONLY EDITION. RARE. ESTC locates copies only at the BL (imperfect), the National Library of Ireland (possibly lacking the advertisement leaf) and Folger (no collation given). Dedicated to the Countess of Salisbury by the anonymous 'Windsor Nimrod', the work consists of a prose description of a fox hunt and seventy-five hunting poems. Mellon/Podeschi 68; Schwerdt II, p. 44. The Sportsman's Evening Brush, consisting of the Best and most Approved Songs of the Chace . London: J. Roach, [?1792]. 12° (162 x 91mm). 92, 37-60p., the last 2 leaves being advertisements. Engraved frontispiece by Barlow after the Cruikshanks. Polished calf gilt by Wood, gilt turn-ins, top edge gilt.
