HYGINUS, Caius Julius (fl. 2nd century, attributed to). Poeticon astronomicon , edited by Jacobus Sentinus and J. L. Santritter. Venice: Thomas de Blavis, de Alexandria, 7 June 1488. Chancery 4° (193 x 144mm). Roman type, woodcut initials, some initial spaces with guide-letter, full-page woodcut of an armillary sphere on verso of a1, astronomical woodcuts in text. (First leaf laid down, worming in text of first 3 leaves, tear into text of c7 without loss, two marginal tears repaired.) 19th-century marbled paper flexible boards. Provenance : contemporary marginalia (slightly shaved). The archetype of this edition is that of Ratdolt, Venice, 22 January 1485 (see previous lot), from which many of the woodcuts are copied, in some cases in reverse.
