I.R.A. Departments of Communication & Intelligence A file containing circa 70 documents, Dec. 1922 - Jan. 1931, mostly concerning I.R.A. communications and publicity, also some material relating to the I.R.A.'s Employment Bureau (1923), which sought to place members in employment; & some documents concerning financial and organisational difficulties at 'an Phoblacht' (1929), including an interesting letter signed 'Peadar' (O'Donnell), arguing persuasively against what seems to have been a proposal to close down 'an Phoblacht'; also an unsigned typescript dated April 1929, headed 'Urgent Need for Publicity'. The communications documents are mainly concerned with couriers, routes, safe houses, lost documents and so on, with much useful details of the IRA's arrangements. There are also some letters and statements (May 1924) concerning the death of Dr. Muldoon of Leitrim in March, 1923, apparently shot in error by an IRA unit. The earlier documents (circa December 1922) include several in the hand of, and signed by Austin Stack, than finance officer. A most interesting collection containing some very useful material. As an Archive, w.a.f. Provenance: Maurice (Moss) Twomey Archive. I.R.A.
