A substantial archive of original artwork, drawings, sketches, comic strips, proofs, designs for movables, political cartoons, advertising designs, and mock-ups for art instruction books, circa1930 to 1950. Approximately 200 pieces ranging from character sketches to highly finished cover designs for various works, most on illustration boards or paper affixed to boards, some with paper covers. Some minor wear or soiling, some drawings detached from mounts. Best known for his illustrations for Pop-up books such as Pinocchio, Mother Goose, Jack the Giant Killer, and Cinderella the present group contains several designs along these classic themes but mostly features illustrations for science fiction and fantasy based stories. Of particular note is a series of finished drawings for a story titled Twink Just Beyond the Moon, a Baum-esque science fiction fantasy in which two children venture onto another planet populated by various Oz style types via a bird shaped spaceship. Also present is a large number of finished comic strip drawings entitled Joji of Jupiter, a sci-fi cartoon complete with space-pods, futuristic devices and a martian sent to aarth. An attractive and interesting archive of a skilled modern illustrator. C
