In the matter of appeal from the action of the director of the Motion Picture Division in refusing to license a motion picture entitled The Forgotten Village: petition for review to the Board of Regents of the State of New York Author: Place: New York Publisher: Appeal Printing Co. Date: 1941 Description: 55 pp. Saddle-stitched printed wrappers. OCLC/WorldCat lists two copies, those being held at San Jose State University and Ball State University. The University of Texas also has a copy. The Forgotten Village is a 1941 American documentary film directed by Herbert Kline and Alexander Hammid. The film was written by John Steinbeck, narrated by Burgess Meredith, and featured music by Hanns Eisler. The New York State Board of Regents, acting as the state's board of censors, banned the film in New York due to the film's portrayal of childbirth and showing a baby at its mother's breast. The film depicts the conflicts between traditional life in a Mexican village, and outsiders who want to introduce modernization. Unlisted in Goldstone-Payne, but present in Valentine. Lot Amendments Condition: Staples oxidized, light wear to wrappers, else fine. Item number: 326114a
