INDIA & PAKISTAN – Vintage Indian Newspaper A rare and huge original vintage bound newspaper supported by the Mahants and the Ruling classes, titled ‘Illustrated Shatranj Newspaper’ special number, Administration and India (Allahabad), Lucknow 1924. Covering the news for 1923-24, with hundreds of photo illustrations from Punjab Maharajahs Sikh Guru, illustrations of the Gurus and their Sikhs being martyred by the Mughals, inc including guru Teghbahadur and Bhai Mati das, , Bhai Munni Singh, photos of Raja of Kalsia State, Chamba State, Maler Kotla, Faridkot State, Kapurthala State, Bhawalpur, Photos of prominent siksh, sardars and nobles of the day, Akali Morchas at Amritsar, Khalifa of the Sikh Nation Maharajah Bhupinder Singh, Chief Sewadars at Amritsar with some illustrations in colour, Ceremonial and sport in Patiala, Vicregal visit to Patiala, Dehras of Ram Rai, Karsewa of Golden Temple, the Maharajah of Punjab from Ranjit Singh to Duleep Singh, Baba Khem Singh Bedi, Prince of Wales in India, Gurdwaras in Amritsar, Akali agitation, numerous illustrations of the ruling chiefs, primarily in the northern states, hot topics being the 1920 Gurdwara act and the forceful removal of the Mahants from Sikh Temples. The paper seems to side with the Mahnats as portrays the Akalis as violent and aggressive to the poor mahant and their families, a pro-mahant and Pro- Monarchist newspaper, bound in original papers covers, edges scuffed as expected with age, some loss to cover edges and spine, written in English with corresponding pages in Urdu, an immense record of the news for 1923-24 with hundreds of images.
