made by the Henderson Ames Co. of Kalamazoo, MI. 32.5" blade, etched panels with U.S. and E. Pluribus Unium. Right side etched Gen'l. Alex J. Stone May 30th., 1900 by AJA. Brass hilt, shagreen handle wrapped with brass wire. "General Alex J. Stone" does not appear in Heitman nor was he a volunteer officer during the Spanish-American War leading us to conclude that his service was in a militia or National Guard, state unknown. Condition: Brass hilt retaining ca 80% gold gilt. Shagreen handle with pleasant cream color look without scuffs or cracks. Blade retaining almost all of the original nickel finish with one tiny salt and pepper spot right at the "9" in the date. Metal scabbard has a speckled look to the nickel finish on the scabbard with traces of gold on the brass fittings. Overall excellent condition.
