IOWA] A long run of the statute law of the Territory of Iowa, 1839-1846 . The group commencing with The Statute Laws of the Territory of Iowa, Enacted at the First Session of the Legislature Assembly of Said Territory, Held at Burlington, A.D. 1838-'39. Du Buque: Russell & Reeves, 1839. The final work being Laws of Iowa passed at the annual session of the Legislative Assembly which commenced on the first day of December, Eighteen Hundred and Forty-five... Iowa City: A.H. & G.D. Palmer, 1846. Nine volumes in 20th century cloth, leather spine labels. Various sizes (most 7 1/2 x 4 3/4 inches); various paginations. Bar Association stamps, old ownership marks, various defects but generally a sound set, apparently complete but sold as a collection not subject to return. The first volume has a small excision (just touching text) affecting the first two leaves, with a small restored tear on the succeeding ten leaves. An apparently comprehensive run of Iowa territorial printings including the extra sessions for July 1840 and June 1844. Iowa was admitted as a state in December 1846. The Statute Laws of 1839 is the first legal work printed in Iowa, and succeeds the introduction of printing by just three years. C The New York City Bar Association
