Exeter Watchman and Agricultural Repository, Vol. 1, new series, No. 14, February 8, 1820. Exeter, New Hampshire, 8 February 1820. English. Issue of a newspaper from the town of Exeter, New Hampshire, United States. On page 4, as part of a column titled "The Jews", is an item stating that M. M. Noah has presented a petition to the Legislature of New York offering to purchase a tract of land belonging to the state - Grand Island near the Niagara Falls - with the intention of creating a town for Jewish emigrants. The island was purchased by New York State from Indians in 1815. Noah believed that with high-rise housing, 6 million Jews could be settled on the island, which would serve as their land of refuge and be called Ararat. Noah purchased a third of the island and received options to purchase the rest, but the plan never materialized. 4 pp., 52 cm. Good condition. Folded. Some stains.
